Editorial Policy

Everything published on The Modern Slave is built on figures that can be checked. This page sets out the standard, and what happens when we fall short of it.

Where the numbers come from

Statistics come from primary sources — the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Federal Reserve, the Census Bureau, the Congressional Budget Office and comparable official bodies — and are cited with the year they refer to. Where a figure comes from a private dataset or survey, the organization behind it is named.

We do not estimate, round up for effect, or publish a number we cannot trace to a source. If a figure cannot be sourced, it does not run.

What we do not do

  • No invented statistics, and no “studies show” without the study.
  • No quotes attributed to real people that they did not say.
  • No paid placements, sponsored articles, or payment in exchange for coverage.
  • No fabricated product reviews, hands-on claims or star ratings. See how we pick products.

Corrections

Mistakes get fixed on the page rather than quietly deleted. Where a correction changes the substance of an article, it is noted at the foot of that article with the date. Report anything that looks wrong to info@themodernslave.com.

How the site makes money

Through Amazon affiliate links, and nothing else. If you buy something after clicking one, The Modern Slave earns a commission at no additional cost to you. That arrangement has no bearing on what gets written: no advertiser has been given review or approval over an article, because there are no advertisers.
